Client Profile

Client: Homes by Avi
Type: Contract Project
Role: Front-End Web Development

Challenges & Objectives

Project Imperatives

Homes by Avi sought my expertise after an initial website failed to align with their technical and user-centric needs. The project demanded the creation of a new, CMS-based website that would offer the technical flexibility necessary to cater to the unique requirements of each of their business units.

Crafting the Solution

Project Approach

Incorporating the client’s internal process, we engaged a third-party design agency to execute the user interface design and define the information architecture. Subsequently, the client’s in-house designer breathed life into the design concept, creating visual designs. Detailed Photoshop documents were provided for each user interface component and page layout.

Development Collaboration

My collaborative efforts extended to working closely with the Marketing and IT departments. This partnership involved shaping the site’s structure, constructing the user interface components and crafting web page templates. This intricate process encompassed slicing Photoshop documents into usable digital assets, crafting front-end code and rigorously testing cross-browser compatibility.

Skills & Tools

The project was powered by the following skills and tools:

  • Adobe PhotoShop
  • HTML & CSS
  • JavaScript
  • Telerik UI
  • Sitefinity CMS

Project Outcomes

Measuring Success

The project’s success was quantified through a three-fold evaluation. First, the new website was implemented in just four months, significantly reducing the turnaround time. Second, the development cost, when compared to the expense of a third-party design agency, was markedly lower. Finally, the rebuilt website enjoyed an impressive lifespan of eight years, a testament to its robustness and longevity.

Reflecting on the Journey

One valuable lesson from this experience was the importance of on-site collaboration. This close working relationship with the team enabled me to process feedback swiftly, address design issues as they emerged and ultimately contributed to the reduction in development time.
